i agree it did get very hot but i Purchased a dimmer from home depot and took care of the problem, but not sure if the heat is affecting the adhesive on the vinyl?

There is a HI-LOW switch available

I bought this exact panel a year ago, but from a different seller (Stahls only had the larger weeding table at the time). It does make even the most difficult vinyls peel off with ease. It does get HOT, too hot to rest your hand on while weeding. There's a Hi-Low switch made specifically for this panel, with the low setting delivering only half of the power. It definitely makes it bearable to rest your hand on the surface of the panel. It's available at a few retailers for around $10, just google Cozy Products Hi-Low Heat Control Switch.

Can I attach a rheostat or a dimmer switch to the cord to reduce the heat without hurting the panel?

Panel works great, EXCEPT I did not realize how hot it would get. There is no way you could leave it on the entire time you were weeding, unless you are wearing oven mitts!

Darice I agree what I do is heat up the pad completely then turn it off wait 2 mins then get to weeding seems to help a lot. I also have used a silicone heat mat that reduces scorching and the heat box on garments with the unit on that helps to.

 Great weeding panel

The panel does help make weeding easier. I only wish the temperature was adjustable as it can get too hot when trying to weed detailed designs.
