How to select the right transfer paper.
Different projects need different heat transfer papers. When choosing the right paper for the job, a number of factors must be considered:
Are you decorating a light garment or a dark one? Using a paper intended for lights on a dark substrate will give the image a muted look. Care should be taken to use the right transfer paper for your garment.
Is the garment cotton, polyester, or a specialty fabric? While ExactPrint™ may be a perfect solution for cotton garments, InkTra™ Stretch would be better suited for swimwear or athletic apparel. Choose the transfer paper that best suits your material
What type of printer are you using? Putting inkjet paper in a laser printer will cause the image to wash off quickly, and putting the wrong type of paper in your color laser copier/printer could jam the equipment. Choose the right paper for your type of printer. Each type has its own advantages:
Inkjet transfer papers allow you to choose from a wide variety of textures, plus they can be used with any standard inkjet printer.
Laser transfer papers, on the other hand, are lower-cost and provide a quick turnaround time. Plus, toner cost is lower than that of ink cartridges.
Transfer Paper Trouble Shoooting
One issue that arises with digital transfers is color bleeding after the first wash, especially with inkjet paper. Here are some tips to keep your designs looking as good as possible for as long as possible:
• Leave about one-quarter of an inch of border around the film rather than trimming right up to the design. This helps seal in the ink fully, thus reducing bleeding.
• Some decorators increase image resolution (dots per inch), which saturates the transfer with ink, whether printed by a color laser copier/printer or an inkjet. Avoid saturation by maxing out resolution at 720 dpi.
• Wait at least 24 hours — ideally 48 hours — after you've decorated the item before washing it.
Application Tips
Most transfers take about 30 to 45 seconds to print, and around 15 to 30 seconds to heat seal to the substrate. In all, allow about two minutes of production time per unit, including time for loading the item on the press, printing the transfer, applying it, and peeling it off (most transfers are a hot peel, although some can be peeled hot or cold).
Heat Transfer Paper Money Making Ideas
If you’d like to start a business without a lot of up-front capital investment, transfer papers and a heat press can help put you on the pathway to success. Easily apply photos from family reunions or charity events to T-shirts, mouse pads, bags, pet apparel, pillow cases, memory quilts, and the list goes on! The only limit is your imagination.
For example, apparel can be personalized with kids’ drawings or with a photo of a loved one who is serving in the military.
