Q:
My heat press is older and I think it might have cold spots. How do I know?
A:
Heat press cold spots are the leading cause of application error. Use the Heat Press Test Kit to verify if your heat press is performing properly.
Q:
How can I check the pressure setting on my heat press?
A:
Lower the upper platen and lock it into place. Heat presses with a pressure readout will display the setting on the front panel.
Q:
What voltage are the Hotronix® heat presses sold in?
A:
Hotronix Heat Presses are available in both 110V or 220V.
Q:
My heat press machine starts to heat but then stops. What should I check?
A:
Verify if your machine is in the set temp or set time modes. This could be causing the heat press to stop heating.
Q:
Sometimes when I lock down my Auto Clam it releases too soon. Any suggestions?
A:
If you can't get your heat press to stay closed, there may be too much pressure or the round magnet on the adjustment arm may need cleaning. Check with your manufacturer.
Q:
After being on and not used for several hours, my Auto Clam shuts off. Is this a feature that can be changed?
A:
The Auto Clam has a manual safety feature with an automatic shut off if the machine is idle for two or more hours. This feature cannot be disabled. Refer to your owner's manual for information on how to reset.
Q:
The heat platen on my Fusion™ is very loose. Should I tighten it?
A:
The upper platen on most Hotronix® heat presses is designed to "float," which will make it appear to be loose. This is part of the design, allowing for even pressure.
Q:
Is it important to use the correct pressure when applying designs to garments?
A:
The key to proper application is the correct time, temperature and pressure for the material you are heat applying. If you have too much pressure it may result in strikethrough. Not enough pressure may affect the material's adhesion.
Q:
What are some of the indications that I may need a new heat press?
A:
One of the main indicators would be certain areas of the applied design are peeling or not adhering fully to the substrate. When this happens it is usually from having cold spots within your heating element. A Heat Press Test Kit will identify the temperature of the four corners and center of the heat press.

You may also want to verify that you are getting even pressure throughout the platen. You can do this by placing four pieces of paper at each corner and then clamping down the upper platen. You should not be able to pull out the paper easily with the platen clamped down.
Q:
Can I use a household iron to apply Stahls' products?
A:
We do not recommend applying any of Stahls' products with a household hand iron. We suggest using a heat press with adjustable pressure settings.
